US 183 in Austin

As US 183 crosses into Austin and intersects several local roads providing access to McKinney Falls State Park, it borders the west side of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport before having an interchange with SH 71 and enters Austin's Montopolis district. US 183 crosses the Colorado River adjacent to the old Montopolis truss bridge prior to serving a major fork east of the Govalle district, making a sigmoid curve east to serve the Colony Park district. US 183 eventually becomes a six-lane freeway north of the Windsor Park district just before crossing US 290, curving west to serve I-35 and Loop 275 (Lamar Boulevard); north of Lamar Boulevard, the US 183 frontage road is redesignated as Research Boulevard throughout the rest of its length in Austin. The highway makes another sigmoid curve to the north before an interchange with Loop 1 (Mopac Expressway).

After an interchange with Loop 360 (Capital of Texas Highway), US 183 serves much of northwest Austin. It eventually intersects SH 45 near Lakeline Mall and becomes a surface street while the freeway continues on the east side as 183A Toll Road. US 183 continues as Bell Boulevard through west Cedar Park before intersecting 183A in Leander. Continuing north, US 183 runs mostly through forests and farmland as it crosses the North and South Forks of the San Gabriel River.

I hear you! I decided to run for office in my retirement. I’m enjoying it for the most part. I’m a retired Industrial engineer and IT consultant still very active. I think  it’s a great thing for the newly retired to get active in state level politics. Our business experience is valuable. I’m going to all the summer festivals and talking to everyone about local issues and campaigning. I spend every afternoon calling people for donations and talking issues. I write  for my blog about my experiences and post pictures from the day on my FB page from daily activities. It’s fun! Seriously  I’m getting great training in how to do all this from  @TrainDems, @NCHouseDems

The local party headquarters always needs volunteers. Get involved in your local precinct. It’s called a participatory government! It’s better than wringing your hands.

Representative Sheryl Cole got her start in public life by stepping up in her local PTA and organizing community support for our schools as one of the Tri-Chairs to the AISD Bond Committee in 2004. Continuing down the path of public service, she would go on to be elected to Austin City Council for three terms, ultimately serving as Austin's first African American female Mayor Pro Tempore. And now, as of 2018, Sheryl Cole represents the communities of East Austin, Manor, and Pflugerville at the Texas Legislature.

Rep. Cole currently serves as Vice Chair of the House Administration Committee and on the Higher Education and Business & Industry committees. Rep. Cole also serves as a member of the House Democratic Caucus, the Texas Legislative Black Caucus – where she earned Freshman of the Year in her first session – the Progressive Caucus, the Texas Energy and Climate Caucus, and the LGBTQ Caucus.

She is a graduate of the University of Texas, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and a Juris Doctorate respectively from the University of Texas Law School. Beyond any of these achievements and accomplishments, she is most proud of raising her three sons - Marcus, Nelson, and Femi - into the successful young men they have become. She is an active member of David Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

The total appointment amount for teaching two courses was for $7,086 spread out over 10 weeks. That’s $2,362 per month before taxes, which is approximately $4,000 to $5,000 less than many of my tenured colleagues with comparable Ph.D.s are paid per month. (Rates vary.) Overall, this institution paid me a measly $24,125 per year.

American Middle Class is Shrinking - Pew Report - 2015

Pew starts with the U.S. median household income.

Then Pew defined "middle class" as households that had at least two-thirds of the median income, but no more than double that amount adjusted for household size.

Based on the above definition, for a household with three people, being middle class means making between about $42,000 and $126,000. If a  family of three makes less than $42,000, then it is  in the lower class. If  it makes more than $126,000, it is  in the upper class.

Based on this definition, middle in America is shrinking.
